'World War 1 Watercolours' by Anne Strongman
I purchased three beautiful watercolours at a Ladock auction in 2010. At the time Philip Buddell, the auctioneer, thought they had come from a house clearance of an elderly lady who had been a nurse during WW1 and assumed they had been given to her as a gift.
They are painted on scraps of brown paper and on the back of each is written in pencil 'painted by a wounded soldier WW1'
I look at these watercolours each day with humble admiration and think what a contrast they are to the horror of war that these wounded soldiers would have experienced.
In my flower arrangement, I have attempted to replicate the still life picture of a fern leaf, leaves and barley corn.
