'Scarlet Fields, in Memory of my Grandfather' by Rosie Morris
Extract from: 'Scarlet Fields'
In memory of my Grandfather, Lt Col LM Howard, tragically killed in the Battle of the Somme, July 1916

......
But as the wind blows softly thro the woodland trees,
And the waters sing their prayers for eternal peace,
So a 100 years on scarlet poppies still grow,
And in Zephyrs breeze they gently blow,
At Heaven's gate the larks are still singing
So pure and perfect, hearts uplifting.
And so Lord we pray it will always be so
That the light of peace will always glow.
Today, tomorrow and forever
But we will never forget the sacrifices
EVER.
