April 2021 Ladock News
A Message from the Rector Easter is a time of new beginnings. The natural world is waking up, flowers are blooming and the birds nesting. This year is much more hopeful than last, with the roll-out of the vaccine and a roadmap out of lockdown and into a brighter future for us all. We can look forward with eager hope to restarting those things we used to take so readily for granted, like popping in to see a neighbour, or going out for a meal. In the Church Easter is the time we remember the death and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. We believe that Jesus died for the sins of the whole world and that in believing in him we are cleansed of our sin and made complete. In time, I wonder, if we might begin to look back on the lockdown period of death and resurrection as the old passes away and the new world is formed. I hope and pray that together we will be able to look forward to re-building our community again as we re-start our life together, thankful that we have made it through a time of suffering together, and mindful of the toll it has taken on us all. Reverend Joachim Foot
Services for Easter and April We are seeking to return to normality in step with the easing of the general restrictions. The Sunday Club, rotas and the choir remain suspended, but we are able to have our normal services with music (no singing still). We continue to ensure that the church is kept as Covid-compliant as possible but if you are worried about attending, please do not feel that you should do so. Similarly, if you know of anyone who is struggling in any way at the moment, or if you would like a call, please contact any one of us using one of the numbers below.
The planned services for Easter and April are:
28 March, Palm Sunday Holy Communion 11.00 am 2 April, Good Friday Service 10.00 am 4 April, Easter Day Holy Communion 11.00 am 11 April, Holy Communion 11.00 am 18 April, Holy Communion 11.00 am 25 April, Holy Communion 11.00 am
In addition there is a short service of Morning Prayer every Tuesday at 9.00 am.
For the time being, the church will be closed expect for services.
Full details of all the online services are on our website: www.ladockchurch.org.uk Easter Flowers We do hope that our flower arrangers will brighten up the church to welcome Easter Day. As it is Holy Week it would be appreciated if arrangements are not taken into church until Saturday 3rd April. You may find it easier to bring your arrangement already in a suitable container. As usual it would be appreciated if you could tend to your arrangement for the time you leave it in church. Please feel free to remove it when you see fit. Please feel free to put your arrangement anywhere in the Church barring the main altar.
Mothering Sunday We were able to have a low key but surprisingly well attended service on Mothering Sunday. In order to include as many people as possible, we arranged for daffodils to be left in the Shop and all the children in the School were given bunches for their mothers.
We are pleased to be able to report that Shirley received her Unsung Hero award from High Sheriff Kate Holborow after the service in a socially-distanced ceremony that took place outside the church in brilliant sunshine. The few well-wishers included all our clergy, in recognition of all the work Shirley has done on our behalf over the years. A fuller report appears elsewhere in this edition of the Ladock News.
