The Benefice of Probus, Ladock, Grampound with Creed and St Erme

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I am sure you will have all seen the news relating to the latest lockdown. I want to assure you all that my thoughts prayers are very much with all of you at this time. We are living through an extraordinary time which is placing huge amounts of strain on all of us. I want to ask you all to take good care of your own wellbeing. All our fears, anxieties, anger and frustration can be taken to the Lord in prayer. We need to, above all trust in the Lord that he will guide us through this dark time.

We are allowed to remain open for worship, but not private prayer. I am still awaiting guidelines from the House of Bishops regarding any alterations that may need to be made to our services.
I have a huge amount of faith and trust in all of you. I believe you will all individually be making sensible decisions regarding your own safety and wellbeing at this time. For some, staying at home and accessing our online resources will be a preferred option. We will have weekly YouTube and Zoom services as well as written online material. Some of you, will decide that the burden of isolation is too much and will prefer to seek company and consolation in communal worship and partaking in the sacraments. We will be having services regularly, the details of which will follow as soon as possible. The most important thing at this time is to pray, hope and trust in our Lord and let him take care of the rest.

Remember the words of Isaiah 30:15 at this time and take your rest in the Lord who is our comfort and shield, who will guard us against all the ills of this age:

For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel,
“In returning and rest you shall be saved;
    in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.”

One of my, many, favourite hymns, which I find helpful to meditate on is 'I heard the voice of Jesus say, which reminds us to come and rest in the Lord, who is our very present help in times of trouble:

I heard the voice of Jesus say,
“Come unto Me and rest;
Lay down, thou weary one, lay down
Thy head upon My breast.”
I came to Jesus as I was,
Weary and worn and sad;
I found in Him a resting place,
And He has made me glad.

Wonderful to see a full church in the video to remind us of happier times.

As we will be spending more time alone, please spend more time in prayer. The Church of England's Daily Prayer offering is excellent for private use, click here

With Every Blessing,
