Plant a Tree for the Jubilee March 16th 2022

Plant a Tree for the Jubilee

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee.”

The Parish Council and the Church applied successfully for some hedging and a Jubilee Oak to plant in the new churchyard extension to commemorate the Queen’s seventy years of dedication and service to us all. We were able to organise a modest planting ceremony on 16 March and invited children from the school to help. We were delighted that so many were able to come to participate and as a result we were able to complete the hedging work in record time. We hoped that by including younger members of the village community from the outset, they would be able to identify with scheme and help maintain it in years to come and for this reason we asked the grandchildren of Sue and the late Philip Smith to plant the Oak. In the event, all the children present were able to join in to demonstrate their digging skills, The tree was then blessed and doused in Holy water by the Rector, Reverend Joachim Foot. Definitely a good start to the celebrations.

The planting has been marked on the official QGC virtual map as well as by the physical plaque:
