Benefice Bulletin for Christ the King, Sunday before Advent

The Benefice of Probus, Ladock, Grampound with Creed and St Erme

Eternal Father,
whose Son Jesus Christ ascended to the throne of heaven
that he might rule over all things as Lord and King:
keep the Church in the unity of the Spirit and in the bond of peace,
and bring the whole created order to worship at his feet;
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
This Sunday marks the feast of Christ the King, one which carries a particular resonance this year. For this our third Sunday in lockdown, we do well to remind ourselves that Christ is our King, our Lord, whom we serve alone. We can find hope in his sovereignty over us, acknowledging that come what may, our Lord is watching over us and ultimately reigns supreme. For those of you who are afraid, Christ our king offers comfort and hope. For those of you who are tired and fed up, Christ our king offers support and a place to rest. And for those of you who are angry, Christ our King consoles and reconciles.
Lord and king, help us, your subjects, to be servants to one another,  mindful that in imitating your example we shall meet you in the most unlikely of places. For our hands offering bread to the hungry and drink to the thirsty are yours. And the hands reaching out to receive are yours also.  The sick that we take care of are you and the stranger that we welcome into our midst is you. You taught us by example how to touch the lives of our fellow men. Help us so that our own wounds may bear fruit in love. May the pains of the past create in us compassion. Stir up in us generosity, graciousness in giving, and lavishness in love. Amen

Advent Online is an incredible library of resources for churches and individual Christians, reaching out right across the world. Over 3,000 global Christians, involved in leading worship, have gathered together online over the last eight weeks to share their resources, gifts, skills and ideas to plan services and outreach during the Advent and Christmas season. Advent Online has emerged from this wellspring of collegiality, fraternity, and generosity.

Recognising the great lurch forward that the faith has taken, right across the world, in transforming social media spaces into virtual banks of the Galilee, the Advent Online resource library provides churches with shareable high quality, traditional and original content for use in their parishes and places.

For each day of Advent, there will be an offering of music, visual, written, and scriptural content that will cover the themes of hope, peace, love, and joy; but equally not shying away from the themes of lament and waiting. Churches might directly share the resources to their parishes, or individual Christians might use the site for their own personal devotions.

This resource will be different because it will reflect the different way that the whole world will be walking towards Christmas. Reduced materialism, reduced socialising, reduced family gatherings mean that there will be space and time unlike other years. Advent Online hopes to offer something into that space that will reflect the beauty, the universality, and the hopefulness that the Christian faith has to offer the entire world, by drawing them closer to the birth of Christ, and close to the message of Emmanuel; that God is with us.
