Almighty God,
whose Son Jesus Christ is the resurrection and the life:
raise us, who trust in him,
from the death of sin to the life of righteousness,
that we may seek those things which are above,
where he reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Our Gospel reading this week steps away from the resurrection narratives and looks at the question of the person of Christ. For the Early Church, one of the great questions of the day was what exactly Jesus' relationship to God the Father was. Our gospel reading gives us one of the clearest statements of Christ about his relationship to God the Father, 'I and the Father are one' he says. This is one of the real mysteries of our faith, that Christ was God the Son made manifest on earth, fully human and yet fully God.
