Morning Prayer for Feast of Ss Joachim and Anne

Preparation

O Lord, open our lips

All   and our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

This opening prayer may be said

The night has passed, and the day lies open before us;

let us pray with one heart and mind.

Silence is kept.

As we rejoice in the gift of this new day,

so may the light of your presence, O God,

set our hearts on fire with love for you;

now and for ever.

All   Amen.

 

The Word of God

Psalm 127

Unless the Lord builds the house,
    those who build it labour in vain.
Unless the Lord guards the city,
    the guard keeps watch in vain.
It is in vain that you rise up early
    and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil;
    for he gives sleep to his beloved.[a]

Sons are indeed a heritage from the Lord,
    the fruit of the womb a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior
    are the sons of one’s youth.
Happy is the man who has
    his quiver full of them.
He shall not be put to shame

We pray especially for family life

Lord God of Israel,

who bestowed such grace on Anne and Joachim

that their daughter Mary grew up obedient to your word and made ready to be the mother of your Son: help us to commit ourselves in all things to your keeping and grant us the salvation you promised to your people; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

 

The Lord’s Prayer is said

Let us pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us

All   Our Father, who art in heaven …

 

The Conclusion

The Lord bless us, and preserve us from all evil,

and keep us in eternal life.

All   Amen.
