Message from the Rector

Exploring Sacred Spaces

Ow sos ger,

This week we consider the role of Chapel, the time when we come together for public worship. This implies a togetherness. Which also implies that there is a common language used, that there are common prayers (prayers that are said out loud) that connect us to God and one another, even with those across the worldwide Church.

Chapel experience is different to that of our cell. In a part of the country where Chapel might have a particular meaning as does the word Church…I wonder what word would best describe what typically happens here across our own patch Sunday by Sunday or during the various services that take place?

What does church mean to you? How is that the same or different to chapel? Is there a better way to describe it?

In your journal, explore what the differences might be for you.

Write what it is that you value when you join with others to lift your voice in praise and adoration of God our Father in heaven.

What helps you to feel connected with God at services that isn’t possible at other times of the week? Is there something in particular?

As you ponder on the role and purpose of church, consider what it is you bring to the gathering, or if you are at home how you connect with the Body of Christ. Is there something or someone you need to make contact with? Would you appreciate a visit, or would like to talk something through? If so, call me and let’s get together.

One more question…can we decline cell or chapel/church and still be called a Christian i.e. a follower of Christ?

I am intentionally being a bit provocative, not to upset but to cause some deep thinking…

Thine Kingdom Come - God With Us - 14th-24th May

This year’s Thy Kingdom Come focuses on the presence of God through His Spirit.

God is with us in everyday life—in both the joys and the sorrows—and through His Spirit, He seeks to reveal Himself to those who do not yet know Him.

Over the 11 days, we will explore a different Bible story each day—from Ruth and Gideon to Elijah and the early church waiting for the promised Holy Spirit—each one showing God’s presence, power, and love at work in people and places.

As we pray for our five people, our hope is that they too will experience the life-changing love of God and choose to follow Him.

Rev Caroline will also be holding a Compline service each evening at 7.30pm at various locations throughout the period.

Leading Intercessionary Prayers in Church

A Date for your Diary - Saturday 23rd May

This will be our second workshop in leading intercessions. The first workshop was a great success and so we hope to build on this by exploring different ways to lead the intercessions i.e. how to use the Psalms or hymns within the prayers to form a structure...

This is suitable for everyone involved in leading intercessions -no matter the particular tradition, and is suitable for newcomers exploring if this might be what God is calling them to!

A reminder that I am trying to create a schools team that will engage with all our schools a couple of times around the year providing spiritual and creative ways for children to engage with the Christian faith and tradition. Tower Open Day @ Probus Church

We are looking for volunteers to help make our Tower Open Day on Saturday 16th May, 11am to 4pm a success!

Support is needed in a number of areas throughout the day, including assisting with refreshments, donating homemade cakes and helping to guide and support visitors at various points on their way up the tower.

Whether you can spare a full day, half day or just a short amount of time, your help would be greatly appreciated. All roles play an important part in ensuring visitors have an enjoyable and safe experience.

If you are able to volunteer or would like more information, please do get in touch.

Dear Church Colleagues,

I am pleased to invite you to the Spring Open Afternoon of the Diocese of Truro Mothers' Union, to be held on St George's Day, Thursday 23 April, at St Endellion Church, near Port Isaac, PL29 3TP, 14.00 - 16.30. The speaker will be Ann Hatton of Ripple Effect - a charity that works alongside families in rural Africa, helping them to grow more food and earn a living so that they can lift themselves out of poverty. The congregation at St Probus and St Grace supports ICJ by tithing 5% of their regular to Great Lakes Outreach (GLO). GLO is an internationally respected organisation that currently supports over 25 partners in Burundi.
