Ow sos ger,
In these in between weeks of Christmas and Lent, we take some time to consider the fresh call of Jesus, once again we are invited into the ministry and mission that he practiced as he came alongside us. We are invited into that same relationship that Jesus has with the Father. We are called and known by name. We are children of God and there is something that we are uniquely called to contribute. Sometimes in church circles this can be referred to as the ‘N’ (insert your own name) shaped hole or role…we all of us have a distinctive identity that has been formed through our life experiences, the gift we have been given, our skills, knowledge, love, all of these combine together to make us uniquely who we are.
At Probus youth group last Sunday evening we had an interesting conversation around identity and what our names actually mean. For some there is something about growing into our names, some names seem old on young peoples shoulders, other names call us into particular modes of behaviour, some give us ideas of grandeur that seem inappropriate or unattainable. Jesus’ name, Emmanuel -God with us- gave the people hope. Jesus’ name continues to give people hope today. We know that Jesus chooses to work with people as part of a team, he was part of that team and he also led but from within the team thus enabling others to participate and take up active roles even whilst they were still learning.
As we think about ministry and mission across the Upper Fal Parishes let us think about our particular name and status as children of God. What is it we can offer to contribute to the ministry and mission of Jesus?
Can we open opportunities in our own church for offering hospitality and welcome? Could we join a committee or group in the wider community helping the sense of community spirit to take shape? Coan we take some time to visit a friend or neighbour that we haven’t seen for a while and simply show friendship thus extending God’s love to one another? However, you choose to rise to the invitation of being part of Jesus’ followers, I do hope that you will enjoy knowing that your name is known and called by God.

Caroline

Collect for Sunday
Almighty God,
whose Son revealed in signs and miracles
the wonder of your saving presence:
renew your people with your heavenly grace,
and in all our weakness
sustain us by your mighty power;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen

Our midweek home groups are a real blessing to be part of, a place where we share life, faith, and friendship. It’s often the first to hear when someone needs prayer or has good news to share.
We hope these groups will continue to grow and welcome new members as we journey together in faith.
For details about the different midweek home groups you can join, please contact the home group leaders.
Grampound with Creed meets on Thursday evenings (weekly) with William & Ruth Trinnick (various locations)
Probus meets on Tuesday evenings (fortnightly) with Scott and Sue Hall
Probus will be meeting Thursday evenings (fortnightly) with Liz and Chris Marshman. Please contact Liz on 07525 456434.

For 150 years, Mothers’ Union members have put Christian faith into action to support women and families facing poverty, violence, and injustice. In this Diocese, for instance, 11 of the 14 Mothers' Union branches have now achieved Bronze Awards for their participation in the RISE UP campaign against domestic abuse. In other countries, such as Burundi, Mothers' Union members are heavily involved in projects to empower women and girls through education and community-led savings and loans associations that enable them to start small businesses and earn their own money. The impact of these small, practical projects on individuals' lives and dignity is enormous.
The 150th anniversary will be celebrated in St Paul’s Cathedral on 10 June, and by local events in Cornwall during the year. Branch activities are sociable and open to all - to find your local branch, email mu.truro.dp@gmail.com
RISE UP resources can be used by any church, and would make a very good activity to focus on during Lent.

Generosity and Stewardship Matters
Financially Supporting your church
The Parish Giving Scheme is our preferred method of receiving regular giving within the churches of Probus, Ladock and Grampound. If you haven't already transferred from other forms of giving then do check out how it works through the link here or by contacting your treasurer.
Please do consider whether this is a good time to review your regular giving at the church, or perhaps you would like to plan for a future donation and leave a gift in your will. The Church of England has produced guidance on legacy giving which you can find here
Generosity Update
Happy New Year! We hope that you have had a joyful and peaceful Christmas and New Year! As we begin 2026 we hear the familiar question: “What are your New Year’s resolutions?”, as if the flipping of a calendar makes change easy!
It may not be that simple in our own strength, but if we trust in God and our goal is to serve Him and His people, He provides for us and enables us to grow in our lives and our ministries.
2 Corinthians 9: 6-15 encourages us to live lives of generosity “supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God” (V 12)
And as we grow in generosity we have the promise of a blessing from God. In verse 11 we read, “You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God”
There are a range of resources that you may like to use for you own personal study or for small group study, perhaps through lent, which can help you to explore generosity. A couple of examples are:
1. Living Generously Films and study guides by Jonathan de Bernhardt Wood, CofE director of giving - a wonderful set of reflections on the Gospel story of Mary anointing the feet of Jesus. Each session has a short film and a downloadable study guide
2. Generous God, Generous People - a 5 week course of daily reflections covering Generous God, Generous people, Generous giving, Generosity towards others and Principles for generous people to live by. It is ideal for personal study through lent.
Perhaps our new year resolution can be to live as more generous disciples of our generous God.
