Message from the Rector
Ow sos ger,
I recently read a book called Learning To Walk In The Dark by Barbara Brown Taylor. It is a book about discovering the mysteries of things such as God’s love when we cannot see using our regular ways of seeing. There are times and situations when we must learn to trust and to wait in order to see what might be revealed. In doing so we discover depths that we never knew existed.
In some ways this is what it is like when we take a retreat. We let go the usual calls on our time and attention such as screens – or the things that distract us from God- and instead we intentionally turn our face to the Lord to spend time in a one to one, a bit like Moses climbing the mountain into God’s presence. Next week I shall be taking a mini retreat just for a couple of days. It will be in silence and solitude. It is a short bit of time that I have set aside to pray and to listen deeply to God. You will recall that Jesus at the beginning of his ministry took 40 days to retreat into the wilderness - meaning beyond the confines of civilisation or society, I am doing the same but just for a few days. Jesus then punctuated his time in ministry with periods of solitude and silence as he went beyond where the crowds were. It was during these times that Jesus received clarity and purpose as he grew in understanding and confidence about his calling (his mission) to the people around him. It is my hope that as I set time aside to listen to God, that I will also align my heart and its desires with those of God. It is about becoming more fully whom God has created me to be. Please can I ask you for your prayers as I take this time away.
Gras ha kres,
Caroline

Collect for Sunday
Almighty God,
whose Son Jesus Christ fasted forty days in the wilderness,
and was tempted as we are, yet without sin:
give us grace to discipline ourselves in obedience to your Spirit;
and, as you know our weakness,
so may we know your power to save;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen

Our midweek home groups are a real blessing to be part of, a place where we share life, faith, and friendship. It’s often the first to hear when someone needs prayer or has good news to share.
We hope these groups will continue to grow and welcome new members as we journey together in faith.
For details about the different midweek home groups you can join, please contact the home group leaders.
Grampound with Creed meets on Thursday evenings (weekly) with William & Ruth Trinnick (various locations)
Probus meets on Tuesday evenings (fortnightly) with Scott and Sue Hall
Probus will be meeting Thursday evenings (fortnightly) with Liz and Chris Marshman. Please contact Liz on 07525 456434.
Tresillian - We are hoping to begin a daytime group in Tresillian, more news to follow, but if you would like to offer your home please let Rev. Caroline know.

Dear all,
Over the past few weeks it has been a joy to have Sara, Ant and Scott to come alongside me at services as they have preached. A calling into Reader ministry is one where the individuals concerned feel an immense conviction that they are called to study, teach and preach.
How this might be actioned will differ for each individual as some will feel an affinity to walking with those who have been bereaved, some will feel drawn to encouraging those who are members of the Church, some will feel called to reach out to a different generation perhaps in non-traditional places such as schools, pubs, village halls, supermarkets, home groups.
There are many ways in which we are called to share our faith and to encourage ourselves and our neighbours. Please do encourage the members of your churches who take that step of faith and offer themselves in various forms of ministry such as reading the lesson, leading the intercessions, facilitating children’s spirituality and learning, visiting friends and praying alongside them.
Grace and peace
Caroline
Schools Team
A reminder that I am trying to create a schools team that will engage with all our schools a couple of times around the year providing spiritual and creative ways for children to engage with the Christian faith and tradition. All roles will be safely recruited into in accordance with our safeguarding policy. Please contact Revd Caroline for more information.
Pastoral Administrator
I would like to ask if there is someone who would be willing to provide a little admin support in the pastoral work of our churches. This will require sending cards periodically around the year. For a role description and more information please contact Revd Caroline.

Generosity and Stewardship Matters
Financially Supporting your church
The Parish Giving Scheme is our preferred method of receiving regular giving within the churches of Probus, Ladock and Grampound. If you haven't already transferred from other forms of giving then do check out how it works through the link here or by contacting your treasurer.
Please do consider whether this is a good time to review your regular giving at the church, or perhaps you would like to plan for a future donation and leave a gift in your will. The Church of England has produced guidance on legacy giving which you can find here

Your Benefice Bulletin needs you!
Our weekly Benefice Bulletin is a vital way we share news, services, and events across our churches and we’re looking for someone who would be willing to take on publishing it each week.
The role involves preparing and sending the bulletin email using Mailchimp, so confidence with computers and basic software is essential. That said, full start-up support and guidance will be provided, so you won’t be thrown in at the deep end!
If you enjoy working with emails, like things to be clear and well-presented, and would like to offer a valuable service to the benefice, we’d love to hear from you.
If you’re interested, or would like to know more before deciding, please get in touch via bulletin@probus.church. Matthew Hodge
