Message from the Vicar
Ow sos ger, Myttyn da!
This week rather than a few thoughts or a reflection I offer you a bit of a roundup:
Leading your church in prayer is a workshop coming up on Saturday 8th November 10am to 1pm at St Nun’s Church.
This is open for ‘anyone and everyone’ interested in leading prayers at church -the intercessions. Please come a long and find out more, there will be something for everyone there i.e. for those exploring, for those just starting out, for those wanting to develop their prayers, for those wanting to explore different styles, and for those who have suggestions on themes etc. Please book your place by emailing or telephoning me. As if we have spare places I will open this up to the deanery.
Dean and Eleanor, I want to thank you for hosting our first introduction to Safeguarding course. Comments have included “it was so much better than doing it on my own”, “at first I wondered what I was doing there, but it was good to see how the Church is responding to those that have raised concerns about churches not aways being a safe place”, “that was ok, I thought it was going to be more graphic but now I do feel like I know what to do if I am worried about someone’s well-being”, “the jigsaw exercise helped me to understand how reporting works and that this is not about ‘dobbing someone in’”, “I feel much more confident about my responsibility now”.
Look out for our next session in the Spring, this will be the foundation level, and is aimed at anyone who volunteers at any of our churches across the Upper Fal Parishes. This would be particularly suitable to new volunteers, to those whose expiry runs out sometime in 2026.
St Herme’s Church hosted our first Creation Care and Harvest workshop for school children last week. It was a tremendous affair with almost 50 children coming to learn why Christians care so much about the world in which we live, our mandate found in Genesis of our duty to care for the world and what we are doing to try and remedy our neglect in this calling. The children listened to the story of Creation, wrote prayers and blessings, made bee bombs, and created collages made from pulses, made use of activity sheets and had a fantastic time.
‘Experience Christmas’ is an interactive prayer station for children to enjoy. It would be great to offer this to our schools if possible. This would mean either groups of school children coming to the church or for us to go to school to set up prayer stations as we tell the story of Christ’s birth, we also lead the children in a short reflection. In order to offer this we do need volunteers wo have been safely recruited or are willing to be safely recruited. I am looking at w/c 24th November. It would be great if volunteers are willing to form a team and be willing to support this vital offering to school children. Please email me if you are interested. The more people there are the more we can reach!
And a slowing down….
We all have different ways of preparing for Advent, I like to light a candle, and reflect on various approaches to Advent. This year I shall be reading Making Room for Christ, written by the Franciscans. From1st December until 25th December there are readings, reflections, prayers and journalling suggestions, there is also material for group discussions each week. This might make a lovely resource for you to meet with friends and to ‘do’ together. If you are interested, please order your book through me, I have been offered them on a sale or return basis, but very generously I have also been offered a 40% commission which will go to each church according to the number of sales. The book cost £10.00
One last Notice
Sunday 26th October.
A service of Holy Communion will take place at Holy Trinity Church in Tresillian 11.15 with Revd Brian McQuillen.
I will be away on holiday. Therefore, we will be offering one service of Holy Communion across the patch. Churches that would be due to hold a service will be offering a lay-led service. You will be made very welcome at Holy Trinity; might I suggest that car-sharing would be greatly appreciated.
Gras ha kres,
Caroline

As we look ahead to the readings for this coming Sunday, I invite you to pause, reflect and enter more deeply into the Word. Before the service, take time with the passage and ask the following four questions:
-
What does this passage tell me about God?
-
What does it tell me about human life?
-
If this really is God’s word, what will I do in response to it?
-
Who am I going to tell about what I have learnt from this?

Blessed Lord,
who caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning:
help us so to hear them,
to read, mark, learn and inwardly digest them
that, through patience, and the comfort of your holy word,
we may embrace and for ever hold fast the hope of everlasting life,
which you have given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen

Ss Probus and Grace Church
I am currently looking to set up a small team of people who would be willing to open and close the church each day of the week.
In the past Steve as Church warden has overseen this, however, now that he has retired from this position we need to think again about how we can manage to keep the church open.
The church is widely used by everyone in the community for personal prayer, community group sessions, as well as toddler group, community larder and other things from time to time.
Responsibilities of the role would include:
-
Opening up: unlocking the door, and turning on a couple of lights inside.
-
Locking up: ensuring that no one is inside, the toilet is locked, lights are off and doors are locked.
It would be helpful to have a small team of people who would be willing either to take a day each, or a regular day...and that you might be willing to cover each other for sickness or holidays.
Please contact me asap if you can help,
Caroline

One minute they need you, the next you’re the most embarrassing person alive!
This stage of their development is full of change, so Tweens and Teens has been designed to offer hope and help to mums, dads and carers, through the turbulence of the tween years and beyond.
On top of the raging hormones and mood swings, our children are pulling away and becoming their own person. So, how can we give them the freedom to grow without letting them wander into chaos?
At this event, we’ll explore principles that will equip you to come alongside your child as they try and establish their identity, assert their independence and find their place in the world.
You’ll come away with…
-
A better understanding of what’s going on in their brains
-
Practical ways to stay connected with your child whilst letting them go
-
Strategies to keep your child safe, both in the real world and online
-
Ways to help your child establish their identity and develop independence
-
Increased confidence in how you, and your child, can thrive during this crucial stage in their development
-
Bonus content to watch at home to help you with even more specific issues

Generosity and Stewardship Matters
Financially Supporting your church
The Parish Giving Scheme is our preferred method of receiving regular giving within the churches of Probus, Ladock and Grampound. If you haven't already transferred from other forms of giving then do check out how it works through the link here or by contacting your treasurer.
Please do consider whether this is a good time to review your regular giving at the church, or perhaps you would like to plan for a future donation and leave a gift in your will. The Church of England has produced guidance on legacy giving which you can find here
