Intercessions Sunday 10th August 2025
Heavenly Father, bless our worship this morning as we join the world-wide church, gathering as a family and knowing you have promised to be with us in prayer.
We thank you for this time together, for the many blessings you give us: our homes, our food and fresh water, fellowship, friends and a life much calmer than so many places in the world. Bless the farmers who produce our food, harvesting at the moment.
Thank you for all who have worked so hard to raise money for the restoration of the bells, for the many donations of money and time, for the work in moving them from our tower and for the work of the restorers in Loughborough.
Lord hear us Lord graciously hear us
Lord we bring to you the violence and strife, anger, cruelty and recrimination which exists in so much of the world. Such suffering grieves us. We can only pray for an end to the destruction of lives and livelihoods, the loss of homes and communities and the crush of poverty which follows. We thank you for aid agencies and the work they do in so much of the world. Guide world leaders to constantly seek peace. Make them truly committed to an end to hostility and hatred. We pray for our own government, for integrity and an abolition of any desire for self-gain at the expense of others.
Lord hear us Lord graciously hear us
We lift to you our King and the church which he leads. Bless the work of all who serve us so well in our benefice: our own clergy and all whose work enables us to worship here week by week. We lift to you all in the diocese who lead, including those responsible for the appointment of a new Bishop of St Germans, as Bishop Hugh leaves to become Bishop of Worcester, and all responsible for the appointment of a new Archbishop of Canterbury. Lord, we lift to you clergy finding their work too challenging and who are affected by anxiety and depression.
Lord hear us Lord graciously hear us
We pray for communities great and small, for groups which care for one another and create a sense of belonging. At this time of holidays, we lift to you all who come to Cornwall, whether our families and friends or those whom we don’t know. We pray for everyone who is away from home, for their safety on land, in the sea and in the air. We pray for our children’s safety through the school holidays and for young people waiting for exam results.
Lord hear us Lord graciously hear us
Heavenly Father, we bring to you the sick…in body…in mind or in spirit, those who care for them and about them. We ask for strength and your loving kindness to be on those we know who are ill or bereaved, worried about themselves or those whom they love. Rest your healing hands on all in pain, so they may feel the warmth of your love. Today we pray especially for our friend Richard Truscott…. and for Rosie and dear Richard Morris’ family here with us this morning, and for those we know. Bring healing and comfort in their loss. Bring peace to all who mourn: Lord Falmouth at the loss of Lady Falmouth last week… and the families of those who have died at our beaches this summer.
Lord Hear us Lord graciously hear us
We remember all who have died, praying they are now with you in perfect peace and everlasting light. We remember with love Richard Morris and those we know.
May they rest in peace and rise in glory
Lord hear us Lord graciously hear us
Guide us O thou Great Redeemer, make us ready. As we leave church and go out into the world this morning, help us remember that you always walk beside us. Help us remember that we are your hands and your feet, so that as we meet the happenings of the week ahead, whatever befalls, we may know the right path to take through both the light and the shade.
May God be in our heads and in our understanding
May God be in our eyes and in our looking
May God be in our mouths and in our speaking
May God be in our hearts and in our thinking
May God be with us today and every day.
Merciful Father, accept these prayers, for the sake of your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen
